Package Management fees (sometimes known as administration fees) are the fees that keep the providers’ business up and running and keeps your Home Care Package running smoothly. It includes things like wages for administration staff who prepare your monthly statements, quality management and processes, insurance, travel and workers’ compensation.

Care Management fees are charged to cover the costs associated with the coordination and management of your care. This can include activities such as setting up or adjusting your Care Plan, assisting you with scheduling and changing your services, or the purchasing of goods and equipment required for your support.

If you are over 65 years of age, an Australian resident, and require some help at home, you are eligible and can apply to be assessed for a Home Care Package.

To apply for a Home Care Package, you must first register through My Aged Care. You can do this online, or by calling 1800 200 422. You’ll be asked a series of questions about your current situation, health and wellbeing, and an assessment will then be arranged for you. Your assessment will determine whether or not you’re approved for a Home Care Package, and/or other Aged Care services.

The Daily Fee is set by the government and is 17.5% of the pension rate. The amount is subject to change any time the pension amount is adjusted (20 March and 20 September each year). Not all providers charge the Daily Fee and in fact, none of the providers who work with CareAbout do.

If you can afford it, the government will ask you to contribute toward the cost of your care. If you are a self-funded retiree, you’ll be asked to complete an income test which will determine how much you need to contribute (if any). Full pensioners do not need to pay an income-tested fee, and part- pensions will not need to complete the income test as Centrelink will already have your financial information.
