What is a Home Care Package Level 2?

A Level 2 Home Care Package provides individuals with a low to moderate level of Home Care assistance. At this level, you or your loved one still have a fair level of independence, but may require some support at home.

What is included in a Level 2 Home Care Package?

In Level 2, you’ll receive Home Care assistance with day-to-day domestic and social activities. These can include help with household tasks such as cleaning and meal preparation.

How many hours is a Level 2 Home Care Package?

This package level gives you approximately 7 hours of support every fortnight – depending on the fees set by your provider.

What can I spend my Level 2 Home Care Package on?

You can spend your Home Care Package on any reasonable service or product that will directly help you get better care and safety at home. So the choice is yours! You can also choose your preferred approved provider and service under Level 2.

Some of the most common services requested in this package level are:

  • Domestic or household tasks such as cleaning, dusting, laundry, and dishes
  • Household maintenance
  • Gardening services such as lawn-mowing, weeding, and ensuring garden paths are safe and hazard-free
  • Transport services
  • Meal preparation
  • Personal care services
  • Social activities

What is a Level 2 Home Care Package worth?

Recipients of a Level 2 Home Care Package will receive an annual government subsidy of $18,064 paid directly to the provider (July 2023). This is calculated in daily and fortnightly subsidies and will change each year in July.

When selecting a provider, it’s important to consider your subsidy amount and how much you can pay out of pocket. Your provider must be able to clearly explain your fees so that you understand how much and what you’re paying.

What fees are associated with a Level 2?

You may need to pay a basic daily fee and an income tested care fee when you have a Home Care Package.

Basic daily fee

Some Home Care providers may charge a basic daily fee for their services, but others may discard this fee. You will not be charged this fee from a CareAbout Home Care provider.

The basic daily fee changes in March and September each year, and the current fee for Level 2 is $12.08 a day (March 2024).

Income tested care fee

This fee is your contribution to the costs of your Home Care and is determined through an income assessment. Pensioners and those whose income doesn’t exceed $32,820 a year will not need to pay this fee (March 2024).

Currently, the income tested fee ranges anywhere from $18.30 to $36.60 per day, and this fee is also subject to change in March and September each year (March 2024).

Your Home Care provider may charge additional fees besides these two fees mentioned above, so it’s important to check with them and ask for a breakdown of your fees.

How do I apply for a Home Care Package Level 2?

You can apply for a Level 2 at the My Aged Care portal or call them at 1800 200 422. Once you have applied, My Aged Care will arrange for an assessor to visit you in your home and determine the level of care you need.
